CHAPTER 11

Thandie

Everyone had decided to watch a movie, but I opted out. I wanted to check my email and work on a case I couldn’t quite get my mind off of.

One thing about these divorce cases was that some of them never truly left you. I had a few that were simple and very cut and dry, then I had some that made me cry, want to fight the other spouse, or just be downright angry.

Opening my laptop, I hooked it up to my cell phone’s Wi-Fi, then began checking my email. As soon as I started to reply to one, I heard someone enter the kitchen. Looking over my shoulder, I spotted Hezekiah closing the sliding door behind him as if he and I needed some privacy.

“This shit looks comfortable.” He flicked my fluffy pink robe before sitting down next to me.

“Sir, I am working. What are you even doing here?” I asked somewhat playfully.

I wasn’t even gonna lie. I was happy he was here with me. As much as I tried to pretend and make him believe that I didn’t like him, it wasn’t true. However, he had a fiancée, and that was a bit too much for me. I didn’t even like messing with men who had friends with benefits that were too involved, let alone a damn fiancée.

“I know. I thought you could use my services.” He smiled… that damn heavenly smile.

“Maybe I missed something, but do you have a law degree?”

“I don’t, but I don’ had to hire plenty of lawyers, and I been in plenty of courtrooms, so I can be of assistance. Watch.”

“No. This is private. I cannot have you knowing what is going on with my client.”

“Change their names.”

“No. Sit over there if you plan to stay in here with me, Zeke.” I pointed to the chair across from me.

“Damn, aight.” He threw his hands up in mock surrender, then moved to sit across from me.

Tuning out him and his uncomfortable stare, I started reading and making some notes. Hezekiah didn’t say a word to me, only did little things to annoy me, but I acted as if they didn’t.

“Okay. I need a snack.” I hopped up to pour a bowl of Chex Mix. I was so into what I was doing that by the time I noticed Hezekiah reading one of my documents, he was already putting it back down. “What the hell!” I shouted.

“Sorry. I just had to know. But yo’ damn client don’t know me. How the fuck they gon’ figure out I know their business?”

“I know that you know! That’s the problem!” I began shoving my papers back into the folder and then the briefcase. “That’s what I get for leaving this shit out.” I shook my head.

“I’m sorry, baby.” He watched me intently, and he was so damn fine that it was hard not to simper or smile when you looked at him.

That blemish free light skin, curly hair that sat atop his head, broad shoulders, and perfectly trimmed facial hair surrounding those lickable lips.
